1319 Metronidazole, 5gm, powdered, Seachem . Treats cichlid disease, hexamita, internal parasites on marine fish.
Remove new carbon before treating.
Treat in the tank they have been living in. Use a quarantine or hospital tank with good filtration for newly purchased stock. Do not mix with other medicines. Remove prior medications with water changes and carbon before using this product. Failing to remove ich medicines before using metronizadole can KILL your fish. Metronizadole does not seem to harm any species of fish in the tank. Clown loaches, dojos, plecos, and silver dollars have all been exposed to it when they were in with a cichlid in my tanks. While they do not seem to catch cichlid diseases, the medicine hasn't bothered them.

Metronidazole Marine and Freshwater Medication
Metronidazole is an effective and safe treatment for several protozoan and anaerobic bacterial diseases of fish (Cryptocaryon, Hexamita, Ichthyophthirius). It does not adversely affect the filter bed and is easily removed with carbon. There is little danger of overdosing. Usual dose is 125mg/40L (10 US gallons).

Seachem DIRECTIONS: Use 1 - 2 measures (each about 100 mg) for every 40L (10 US gallons). Measurer included. Repeat every 2 days until symptoms disappear. Turn off UV, ozone and chemical filtration. To feed, blend 1 measure with about 1 tablespoon of frozen food paste. To minimize loss during feeding use with FocusTM. To enhance palatability use with Garlic GuardTM. Food may be refrozen. Active ingredient: Metronidazole 100% Treats 1000 to 2000 Liters. End label.

EF Dosage: 2.5 measures (250 mg) per 10 gallons on day 1, day 3 and day 5. (To treat 10 gallons you will need 750 mg.) This matches the dosage of Hex-A-Mit precisely.

Also treats internal parasites on tangs, saltwater fish. Soak spirulina pellets or algae in powder with Garlic Guard, then put saturated food and medicine in with the tang. Double dosage for marine. Use in presence of invertebrates is not recommended.

Advisability of use: Metronidazole is the ONLY medicine that will cure hexamita or cichlid disease, according to the real experts: serious cichlid hobbyists. Advanced Hole In the Head can be treated with Metronidazole, but treatment must be followed by a series of 50% water changes, taking care not to disturb filtration. We're talking about at least 6 partial water changes over a 3 day period. Large Cichlids with "large bubble" causing sideways or diagonal float may be suffering from complications of hexamita. Massage, gently, from front to back may help to pass the bubble and blockage out the anal vent. Treatment with Metronidazole works best if the fish is still eating and isn't in final stages prior to death.

Fresh Carbon will remove this medicine from the water. Do not combine with other medicines.
